Longview has gone a perfect 5-0 against Rockwall recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lobos will face off against the Yellowjackets at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Longview didn't have quite enough to beat Ruston and fell 38-35. That's two games in a row now that the Lobos have lost by exactly three points.
Despite their loss, Longview saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. JACAIDEN DAVIS, who rushed for 41 yards and one TD, and also picked up 41 receiving yards, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was JOHNNY HAMILTON, who rushed for 55 yards and one score.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rockwall). They enjoyed a cozy 48-31 win over Royse City on Friday. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 132nd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Longview better keep an eye on Brent Rickert. He was instrumental in Rockwall's win, throwing for 257 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 78.8% of his passes, and also rushing for 57 yards and one TD on only six carries. Those 57 rushing yards gave Rickert a new career-high. Kaydon Castro also helped with two scores in total.
Rockwall pushed their record up to 3-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.3 points over those games. As for Longview, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Longview has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 184.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Rockwall struggles in that department as they've been averaging 175.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Longview against Rockwall in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 63-34 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Rickert, who threw for 394 yards and five touchdowns. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Lobos still be able to contain Rickert? There's only one way to find out.
