The Treutlen Vikings are taking a road trip to face off against the Hawkinsville Red Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Last Thursday, Treutlen got the win against Turner County by a conclusive 15-3. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Vikings' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Gavin Wood was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jack Walker was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Kylan Page was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.
Treutlen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Turner County only posted an OBP of .364.
Meanwhile, Hawkinsville posted their biggest victory since March 4, 2024 on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Wheeler County an 11-0 shutout. The Red Devils' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
The team relied heavily on Tanner Meeks, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He has been hot for a while, having also posted at least one stolen base the last nine times he's played. Landon Johnson also deserves some recognition as he stolen his first stolen bases of the season.
The win made it two in a row for Hawkinsville and bumps their season record up to 2-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 runs over those games. As for Treutlen, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Treutlen has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hawkinsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
