The Westran Hornets will square off against the Glasgow Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Westran has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Glasgow will arrive with six straight victories.
New Franklin hit Westran with a five-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hornets fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 7-5.
Kate Hollmann made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kharigan Fuemmeler, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Glasgow hadn't done well against Fayette recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Yellowjackets blew past the Falcons 11-5. Considering the Yellowjackets have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Brooklynn Morris spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Hailey Monnig and Aly Prentzler did most of the damage at the plate: Monnig went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Prentzler went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Monnig is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Halle Fuemmeler was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Glasgow kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in six consecutive matchups.
Westran's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Glasgow, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Westran has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Glasgow struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
