Video: Texas Top 25 high school football rankings
See No. 2 Katy in its 35-28 win over Ridge Point.
If there was any worry about Duncanville being ready for the playoffs after a comfortable stroll through District 8-6A play, quarterback
Ja'Quinden Jackson quickly erased those concerns with a 75-yard touchdown run 12 seconds into the Panthers' 45-14 bi-district victory over South Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie) Friday night before an approving home crowd.
Duncanville, No. 1 in MaxPreps Texas Top 25 high school football rankings over the last 11 weeks, lost in last year's Class 6A Division I state title game in heartbreaking fashion to North Shore (Houston) 41-36 on a 45-yard touchdown pass with no time remaining.
Back in the playoffs and looking to avenge that loss, Duncanville scored on its first five possessions. Jackson, a University of Texas pledge, threw for two touchdowns.
North Shore, ranked No. 3, was unruffled in its playoff opener, a 54-0 blowout of Dobie (Houston). Quarterback
Dematrius Davis Jr., a Virginia Tech pledge and the author of the state title game's winning touchdown pass, threw for two scores and ran for three against Dobie (9-2).
Notes: Nine of the top 25 teams will be indoors for area-round playoffs this weekend. Duncanville, No. 4 Allen, No. 5 Carroll (Southlake), No. 9 Guyer (Denton) and No. 13 Highland Park are set to play second-round games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. No. 19 Clemens (Schertz) will face No. 22 Brandeis (San Antonio) at the Alamodome. And No. 23 Dickinson will be at NRG Stadium in Houston to meet No. 25 Atascocita (Humble).
