Texas Top 25 high school football scores: Katy survives, four more nationally ranked teams roll

Katy uses second-half rally to eliminate a tough Ridge Point squad in the first round of the UIL playoffs.

This bracket features five teams ranked in the Top 25

It is officially win-or-go-home time in Texas. The postseason begins this week and the 6A Division 1 bracket checks in as the toughest in high school football.

It features five teams ranked in the MaxPreps national Top 25: Duncanville, Katy, North Shore (Houston), Allen and Carroll (Southlake).

They all won in the opening round, but it wasn't so easy for No. 2 Katy, which was involved in the only close game among the nationally ranked.

The Tigers took the lead for the first time in the fourth quarter and didn't look back. They outscored Ridge Point 21-7 in the second half and won 35-28. Up next for the Tigers is No. 11 Cy-Fair, which cruised to a 65-20 win over Bellaire.

The 6A Division 2 bracket is also one of the top toughest in the land. Longview looks to defend its state title in the ultra competitive 64-team tournament and rolled to a 41-10 win over Temple in the opening round.

No. 25 Fort Bend Travis (Richmond) was the only Top 25 team to lose and it lost to No. 24 Tompkins (Katy) on Thursday night, 35-28.
