Escondido and San Pasqual are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Escondido Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the San Pasqual Golden Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Escondido's offense hasn't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Tuesday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.
Escondido is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Santa Fe Christian on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Escondido was beaten by Santa Fe Christian 56-16. The Cougars were down 40-14 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the defeat, Escondido had strong showings from Naomi Gutierrez, who posted six points along with nine steals and seven boards, and Anaya McGlory, who earned four points. Gutierrez is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 63 points the game before, San Pasqual was a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They had to suffer through a 65-23 loss at the hands of Mt. Carmel. The Golden Eagles have struggled against the Sundevils recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Jackie Perez was San Pasqual's leading scorer, having posted 11 points. Ella Hill held things down on the boards with nine rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Escondido's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for San Pasqual, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Escondido has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like San Pasqual struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Escondido against San Pasqual when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 55-11 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Escondido since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
