Baseball Game Preview: Colony Titans vs. South Hills Huskies

For the second straight game, Colony will face off against South Hills. The Titans will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Huskies at 3:30 p.m. The last three games Colony has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Colony is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering South Hills just ended the team's 12-game winning streak on Wednesday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (5-4), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.

For South Hills' part, Zack Escalera was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Escalera was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one run and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Joseph Moreno tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, South Hills let Diego Villarreal and Ayden Vieth run wild. Villarreal went 3-for-5 with one run and one double, while Vieth got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double. That's the most runs Vieth has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Paxton Czubek, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three RBI.

The win was the eighth in a row for South Hills, bringing their record up to 18-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Colony, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Colony has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts.
