The Newton Railroaders will challenge the Great Bend Panthers at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. Newton has given up an average of 35.6  points per game this season, but Friday's  game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Newton came up short against  Arkansas City on Thursday, falling  40-15.
Meanwhile, Great Bend put another one in the bag  on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Garden City 41-14. Given the Panthers' advantage  in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Buffaloes are ranked 99th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
 Great Bend had a senior duo take command as  Daxton Minton threw for 235 yards and four  TDs on only 17 passes and  Ian Premer gained 92 total yards and four touchdowns. Premer's longest reception was for an impressive 52 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. The team also got some help courtesy of  Jacob Hall, who picked up 67 receiving yards and a pair of  scores.
 Great Bend's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Newton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
 Newton took a serious blow against Great Bend  in their previous matchup  back in November of 2024, falling  49-7. That  matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Railroaders were down  49-0.
