Football Recap: Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley Starts Season with Victory Against Otto-Eldred/Oswayo Valley

Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They really took it to Otto-Eldred/Oswayo Valley for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-6 victory. Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley hasn't had any issues with Otto-Eldred/Oswayo Valley recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Max Gallagher was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 186 yards and three scores while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Logan Skibinski was another key rusher, rushing for 59 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 251 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Skibinski, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why Otto-Eldred/Oswayo Valley lost, don't look at Shane Magee. Despite the final result, he rushed for 58 yards and one TD, and also threw for 122 yards on ten of 18 attempts. Magee really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run.

Looking ahead, Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Redbank Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Otto-Eldred/Oswayo Valley, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Bradford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
