The Heritage Patriots fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Liberty Lions on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 66-59 to the Lions. Heritage's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why Heritage lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ze'ni Patterson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. Patterson hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Bayot, who scored 11 points.
Liberty's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madison Perea, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds. Perea hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for seven straight games. Lea Salinas beamen was another key contributor, scoring 23 points along with eight rebounds.
Heritage's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-7. As for Liberty, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.
Heritage will head out on the road to square off against Antioch at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Antioch will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 443rd, while Heritage is ranked 141st). As for Liberty, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Freedom at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Freedom focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
