Archbishop Mitty hasn't had much luck against Valley Christian recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Monarchs will be playing at home against the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Archbishop Mitty 3.7, Valley Christian 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Archbishop Mitty made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Monarchs fell just short of the Fighting Irish by a score of 3-1 on Friday.
Archbishop Mitty got a good showing from Kelen Johnson, who struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Johnson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Valley Christian's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand St. Ignatius College Preparatory a 6-0 shutout. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 8, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Alex Kim got the start for Valley Christian and what a start it was: he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Kim has become a key player for the Warriors: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-8 otherwise.
At the plate, Valley Christian's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Logan Mull, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Colton Hadfield was another, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Archbishop Mitty's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Valley Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 16-8.
Archbishop Mitty might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Valley Christian in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Monarchs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
