Baseball Recap: South Wins Going Away Against Roosevelt

South came out on top against Roosevelt on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Spartans put the hurt on the Rough Riders with a sharp 9-1 win. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Cody Pierson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Dane Rhodes was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

South pushed their record up to 15-12 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Roosevelt, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-19 record this season.

South will head out to take on Bishop Amat at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Lancers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. Roosevelt does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
