Meridian is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They fell 21-18 to Frost. One positive for the Yellowjackets, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Brianna Rosales spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and 19 unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Mariana Paniagua stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. Dyna Potter was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Meridian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Hico scored first but ultimately less than Rio Vista in their game on Wednesday. They lost 15-3 to the Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Tigers have suffered against the Eagles since April 6, 2021.
Hico saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addyson Swank, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Meridian's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Hico, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Hico's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Meridian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. It's a different story for Hico, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Meridian's hitters?
Meridian suffered a grim 18-0 defeat to Hico when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Meridian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
