The Mt. Shasta Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 14th straight defeat. Their tough 43-23 loss to Modoc might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Mt. Shasta can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1152nd, while the Braves are ranked 332nd).
Despite the defeat, Mt. Shasta saw an underclassman step up: Savannah Henson scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Pigoni, who scored five points along with three steals.
Julianna Minto continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Modoc, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Minto hasn't dropped below two blocks for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Katie Erquiaga, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Mt. Shasta's loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-18. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.9 points per game. As for Modoc, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-6.
Mt. Shasta will head out on the road to take on the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Etna is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Modoc, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Wolves at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Trinity focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Tuesday.
