Friday, 7 p.m. EasternWhy it's big: Friday is the regular-season finale between a pair of South Florida powers that were both ranked in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National High School Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard at the start of the season.
Flanagan (8-1) dropped completely out of the Xcellent 25 after a stunning loss against South Plantation on Sept. 18, (South Plantation is currently just 3-6 on the season). Flanagan, however, has bounced back with five consecutive victories by a combined score of 192-20.
No. 22 St. Thomas Aquinas (7-1) has remained ranked in spite of an ugly 6-3 loss to Deerfield Beach on Oct. 9. Even with that three-point clunker factored in, the Raiders are still averaging over 41 points per game.
Names to watch: Flanagan's senior class boasts a pair of players rated among the Top 50 players in Florida by 247Sports.
Devin Bush Jr. – son of Flanagan's head coach – is a four-star linebacker reportedly choosing between offers from Florida State, Michigan and Auburn.
Dredrick Snelson is a four-star receiver who committed to Minnesota during the preseason.
St. Thomas Aquinas has a trio of 247Sports Top 100 players in Florida, however one of the three will not play. Five-star defensive end
Nick Bosa, an Ohio State recruit, is out of the rest of the season with a knee injury. That leaves four-star receiver
Sam Bruce and three-star tight end
Michael Irvin II, both of whom are headed to Miami.
