Video: Sydney Supple highlights The Oshkosh North senior leads the All-American team as the National Player of the Year.
Power pitchers and power hitters highlight the 2019 MaxPreps Softball All-American team.
Led by National Player of the Year Sydney Supple of Oshkosh North (Oshkosh, Wisc.), the first team pitchers were dominant on their way to a combined 289-11 record as five first-team hurlers were unblemished in 2019.
Madison Penta of Bohemian Manor (Chesapeake, MD) averaged 2.43 strikeouts per inning and the 11 first-team pitchers struck out, on average, two batters per inning in a combined 1,821 innings.
The dozen second-team pitchers were equally as impressive, combining for 297 wins against 31 losses. They fanned 3,314 in 2,047 innings as Karlie Charles of The Colony (Texas) led the way with 37 wins.
Libby Baker of Long (Skipperville, Ala.) set national single season (37) and career home run (89) records to lead a list of 10 players (six on the first team) who hit 20 or more home runs this season.
Baker was one of four players who shined in the circle and at the plate combining for 20 or more pitching victories and 20 or more homers. The others include Angela Zedak of Marist (Chicago) with 21 wins and 22 homers, Kailyn Dismukes of Holtville (Deatsville, Ala.) with 33 wins and 23 homers and Ariel Carlson of Marist (Eugene, OR) with 23 wins and 20 homers.
Junior Jayda Coleman of The Colony (Texas) stole 74 bases, knocked 34 extra base hits, hit .717 and scored 83 runs.
Senior Joley Mitchell of Rose Bud (Ark.) was the epitome of a five-star recruit as she batted .717, hit 14 homers, scored 85 runs, drove in 55, stole 34 bases and walked 33 times. The Notre Dame signee scored or drove in a run in every game for the 35-1 state champions.
Norco, the 2019 MaxPreps National Champions, placed three players with senior catcher Kinzie Hansen being honored for the fourth time. Teammates Sarah Willis and infielder Paige Smith were also chosen.
California led the way with 14 selections, followed by nine from Texas and eight from Florida. All total, 23 states had a player selected.
Two players have NFL connections — specifically the New England Patriots — as Maya Brady of Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.) is the niece of quarterback Tom Brady and Kiki Milloy of Redmond (Wash.) is the daughter of Lawyer Milloy, who played 15 years in the NFL including seven with the Patriots.
