The Monte Vista Mustangs entered their tilt with the Dougherty Valley Wildcats with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Monte Vista walked away with a 61-49 win over Dougherty Valley on Thursday. Given Monte Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while Dougherty Valley is ranked 623rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Monte Vista to victory were Alyssa Rudd and Rachel Brans. Rudd dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Brans scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Rudd is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Naliyah Sefidi was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Monte Vista is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. As for Dougherty Valley, their loss was their 12th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-15.
Monte Vista won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Amador Valley at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. As for Dougherty Valley, they will head out on the road to take on California at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully California focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Tuesday.
