La Canada had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 12-11 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the South El Monte Eagles as they made off with a 14-1 win. The Spartans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Cash Carroll made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.
In other pitching news, Fritz Phillips looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Taylor Parrille was incredible, firing off six RBI, four doubles, and one run while going 4-for-4. Those four doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Loughrin, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
La Canada always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South El Monte only posted an OBP of .240.
As for South El Monte, they moved to 16-6 with that defeat, which also ended their seven-game winning streak. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this game were averaging 2.23 runs allowed.
On South El Monte's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emiliano Gonzalez, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
Looking ahead, La Canada will be playing at home against Monrovia at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for South El Monte, they will face off against Mountain View at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
