Baseball Recap: Deckerville Has No Trouble Against Marlette

Deckerville had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past the Marlette Red Raiders 12-2 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Evan Benjey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Deckerville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 6-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Brayden Russell was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Ashton Wedge was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Deckerville's victory bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Marlette, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.

Deckerville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Red Raiders: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
