Tomball's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaxyn Faldyn, who threw for 221 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes. That's the most passing yards Faldyn has posted since back in October of 2024. Ian Thomas helped Faldyn out on the ground, rushing for 100 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries.
Tomball's run defense was locked in: Magnolia West could only muster 2.7 yards per carry. While six picked up at least five total tackles, Chance Green stood above the rest. He forced one fumble and made five total tackles (2.0 for loss). Tomball didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged nine.
Tomball's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Klein was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 36-30 to Klein Collins. The Bearkats haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Defeat or not, Klein got some senior leadership from Edward Kelly Jr and Grant Stratta. Kelly Jr rushed for 109 yards and two TDs on only 13 carries, while Stratta rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 70 yards.
Tomball's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Klein, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.
Tomball didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Klein in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 48-43 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Kelly Jr, who rushed for 280 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 10.4 yards per carry, and also caught one TD. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Cougars still be able to contain Kelly Jr? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
