Chavez extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-7. They fell 11-7 to the Franklin Panthers. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2025.
Nathen Ontiveros made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Joey Uribe was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
As for Franklin, their record now sits at 2-3. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Franklin's side, Jimmy Gonzalez and Jacob Hoechst were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gonzalez pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Meanwhile, Hoechst tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Hoechst went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Gonzalez a new career-high.
In other batting news, Eric Pinedo was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Izaiah Balboa, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Chavez wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 6-1 loss against Arvin on the 21st. As for Franklin, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Salesian at 3:00 p.m. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
