The La Habra Highlanders will square off against the Yorba Linda Mustangs at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. La Habra will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
On Friday, La Habra was able to grind out a solid victory over Pacifica, taking the game 5-1.
Angel Acuna spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, La Habra let Bobby Brooks and Spencer Carty run wild. Brooks went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Carty went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs Brooks has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Zach Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Yorba Linda fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Canyon on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Comanches by a score of 6-5. The Mustangs have struggled against the Comanches recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Troy Radomski was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Trevor Webb was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Talbott, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
La Habra pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Yorba Linda, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.
La Habra's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Highlanders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Yorba Linda, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will La Habra continue to outrun the ball?
La Habra came out on top in a nail-biter against Yorba Linda when the teams last played back in February of 2017, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Highlanders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
