On Thursday, things could have been worse for Canyon, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 51-36 loss to Casteel. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Canyon has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Canyon saw an underclassman step up: Isabella Escribano scored 26 points. The contest was Escribano's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lanie Rafkind, who scored five points.
Leading Casteel to victory were Ava Lewis and Jackie Rosado. Lewis dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Rosado dropped a double-double on 30 points and 12 rebounds. Rosado set a new season high mark in blocks with three.
This is the second loss in a row for Canyon and nudges their season record down to 6-9. As for Casteel, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
Canyon's road trip will continue as they head out to face Foothill on December 28th. Foothill presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Canyon in California (Foothill is ranked 114th, while Canyon is ranked 345th). Casteel will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Casa Grande at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
