Given Upper Dauphin Area's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while Newport is ranked 560th), the result on Monday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Emilee Deibert was the offensive standout of the matchup as she scored seven points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Kasey Weibley, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Upper Dauphin Area is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Newport, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
Upper Dauphin Area will be playing at home against Greenwood at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Greenwood and Upper Dauphin Area are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Newport, they will head out on the road to face off against York County Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully York County Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
