It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Serra Cavaliers can now relate to. They took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Owls. While losing is never fun, Serra can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 508th, while Oakwood is ranked 164th).
Serra's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaicia Snelson, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Snelson is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for four games straight. Another player making a difference was Kali Carter, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Serra now has a losing record at 13-14. As for Oakwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.
Serra does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Oakwood, they will take on Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Oakwood will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Heritage surely won't give up without a fight.
