Colcord extended their winning streak to eight on Monday, bumping them up to 8-1. They came out on top against the Fairland Owls by a score of 10-7. Surprisingly, this marked the Hornets' sixth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Gracie Evans and Shae Downing made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Evans pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Downing pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. At bat, Evans went 1-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Downing went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one double. That triple marked the first that Evans has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tenley Worsham, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kelli McGarrah, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Colcord was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairland only posted a batting average of .205.
As for Fairland, they dropped their record down to 5-4 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this game were averaging 3.22 runs allowed.
On Fairland's side, Bella Rentfrow and Calli Moncada did some serious damage despite the final result: Rentfrow went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Moncada went 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Addilyn Lollar, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Colcord will host Vian at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. As for Fairland, they will square off against Chelsea at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
