The Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies came tearing into Friday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They slipped by Segerstrom 42-41. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Godinez Fundamental also won the last time the pair played on January 3rd.
Godinez Fundamental got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Julissa Mota out in front who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Mota is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Valerie Esteban, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Segerstrom still got an impressive performance from Faith Ledesma, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Ledesma hasn't dropped below two blocks for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Valeria Quero, who scored nine points along with five steals.
Godinez Fundamental's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-8. As for Segerstrom, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-6.
Godinez Fundamental will take on Ocean View at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ocean View will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1001st, while Godinez Fundamental is ranked 410th). As for Segerstrom, they will head out on the road to take on Garden Grove at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Garden Grove is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
