After both having extra time off, the Sand Creek Scorpions and the Coronado Cougars will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sand Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62 points per game this season.
Sand Creek came up into this matchup off a tough 37-point defeat on December 14th. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Rampart by a score of 75-72 last Friday. The Scorpions have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Loss or not, Sand Creek got some senior leadership from Elijah Brotherns and Mathew Starks. Brotherns went 12 for 16 on his way to 27 points and six rebounds, while Starks went 8 of 12 on his way to 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brotherns has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Brantley, who posted six points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Coronado was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat dating back to last season. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Cheyenne Mountain an easy 63-38 victory. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while the Red-Tailed Hawks are ranked 77th).
Sand Creek will need focus on slowing down Jalyn Jarboe, one of several Coronado players who made an impact when they last played. He went 5 of 7 on his way to 17 points.
Sand Creek's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-2. As for Coronado, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Sand Creek hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 62 points per game. It's a different story for Coronado, though, as they've been averaging only 39.5 points. The only thing between Sand Creek and another offensive beatdown is Coronado. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Sand Creek beat Coronado 50-39 when the teams last played back in January. Does Sand Creek have another victory up their sleeve, or will Coronado turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
