Granite Hills is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Torrey Pines on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Eagles with their most commanding win of the season.
Scott Russell looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brenden Lewis was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Smith, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Granite Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Helix entered their tilt with University City on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Centurions a 2-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Highlanders have posted since March 10th.
Helix saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Johnson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Granite Hills' victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Helix, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Granite Hills hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Helix struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Granite Hills came out on top in a nail-biter against Helix in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
