Basketball Recap: Polytechnic's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

It was a good run, but Polytechnic unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 56-40 bruising from the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 408th, while the Longhorns are ranked 139th).

Despite the loss, Polytechnic had strong showings from Luciana Piro, who posted 11 points, and Maggie Scholze, who put up 13 points. Another player making a difference was Harper Doyle, who earned six points.

Even though they lost, Polytechnic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive matchups.

Camille Dake continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Rancho Buena Vista, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Dake's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Minel Bur, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 10 points and five steals.

Polytechnic's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Rancho Buena Vista, their record now sits at 7-3.

Polytechnic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-45 loss against Chaparral on the 27th. As for Rancho Buena Vista, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 60-36 win against Serra on the 27th.
