The Lindhurst Blazers are on the road again on Wednesday and plays the Marysville Indians at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th. Lindhurst will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1201st, while the Indians are ranked 163rd).
While Lindhurst couldn't quite beat the Pirates on Friday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 35-point defeat they were dealt on Wednesday. Lindhurst fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 34-31. The match was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but Lindhurst couldn't quite close it out.
Despite the defeat, Lindhurst had strong showings from Natali Hernandez, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Hannah Garcia, who scored nine points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hernandez has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Marysville came tearing into Monday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35 points) and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to Wheatland for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-24 victory on the road. Marysville has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 matchups by 21 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Demi Boykin, who scored 20 points. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 20 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Pietz, who scored 13 points.
Lindhurst's defeat was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-23. As for Marysville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Lindhurst have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 21.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Marysville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Lindhurst took a serious blow against the Indians in their previous meeting back in January, falling 102-10. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Lindhurst was down 64-8.
