After a string of three wins, the Willis Wildkats's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 67-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Caney. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Willis came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while New Caney is ranked 639th).
Several Wildkats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sj Young, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. The match was Young's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Bryce Bass, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 rebounds.
Willis' loss dropped their record down to 15-9. As for New Caney, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-14.
Willis will look to defend their home court on Friday against Conroe at 7:00 p.m. As for New Caney, they will head out on the road to face off against The Woodlands at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Woodlands will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
