Even though the Sylmar Spartans have not done well against the San Fernando Tigers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Sylmar walked away with a 52-45 victory over the Tigers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Sylmar.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sylmar to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mia Ceja, who scored 23 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Ceja has scored at least a third of Sylmar's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Vivianna Alvarado, who scored 15 points.
Loss or not, San Fernando got some senior leadership from Unique Doroteo and Marlene Chavez. Doroteo scored eight points along with 18 rebounds and four steals, while Chavez. scored 19 points. Doroteo has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played.
Sylmar has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for San Fernando, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-11.
Sylmar will head out on the road to take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Kennedy is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games. As for San Fernando, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Centurions at 4:30 p.m. Saugus presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Tigers in California (the Centurions are ranked 197th, while the Tigers are ranked 628th).
