Baseball Recap: Central Find Success

Central had lost three straight, but after bumping their record up to 7-8-2 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the Hampshire Whip-Purs 5-3. This was payback for the Rockets, who suffered a 6-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Aidric Arndt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Central's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 4-7-2 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaxton Bovee, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Liam Schultz, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run.

Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hampshire struck out eight times.

As for Hampshire, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-6-1 record this season. Whip-Purs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Central since Thursday.

On Hampshire's side, Shane Pfeiffer was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will square off against Woodstock North at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Thunder will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Hampshire, they will face off against Harvest-Westminster at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Whip-Purs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
