ANDOVER, Minn. - Andover (Minn.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 15 in Minnesota, but was stunned by
Totino-Grace (Fridley, Minn.), 39-6. Totino-Grace was ranked at No. 17 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Minnesota coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a
Carlton Djam touchdown run in the second quarter, the Eagles were up 7-6 at the half.
Totino-Grace grew its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. TG scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Kai Barber.
The Fridley school locked in the win by scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter to push the final margin to 33.
Andover's lone touchdown came on a 6-yard pass from Connor Wilkie to Justin Freyholtz in the second quarter.
The Eagles went into the matchup giving up only 16.4 points per game. The six points that the Huskies ended with were well below their average of 33.2 coming into the game. Andover came in allowing just 17.0 points per game this season. AHS had a hard time against Totino-Grace's offense, which entered the game scoring 24.0 points per game.
A 14-12 Totino-Grace victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The win brought Totino-Grace's winning streak to three games.
Andover (4-2) goes up against Park Center in a Northwest Suburban game matchup next week, while Totino-Grace (5-1) locks horns with Robbinsdale Armstrong also in a Northwest Suburban game.
