The Marmion Cadets will venture away from home to square off against the St. Rita Mustangs at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
Marmion made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Brother Rice, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cadets fell just short of the Crusaders by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cadets have suffered since May 29, 2025.
Matthew Tulley was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, St. Rita came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Spartans a 15-0 shutout. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.
Gregory Zaber looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, St. Rita let Timmy Swanson and Jayden Hawkins run wild. Swanson went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Hawkins went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Swanson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryan Jones, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
St. Rita always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Lawn only posted an OBP of .077.
St. Rita's record now sits at 10-2. As for Marmion, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6-1.
Marmion came up short against St. Rita in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, falling 8-3. Can the Cadets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
