Montgomery extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday, bumping them up to 8-7. They put the hurt on the Steele Canyon Cougars with a sharp 7-1 win. Ricardo Aguilar made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Montgomery is 4-1 when Aguilar allows one or fewer earned runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Aguilar was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Andr?s Ruvalcaba looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Marco Reyes was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Giovanni Chalico also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Steele Canyon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Steele Canyon's side, they got a good showing from Griffin Morrison, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits Morrison has allowed since back in February.
On the hitting side, Steele Canyon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austin Hall, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Looking ahead, Montgomery will head out to take on Bonita Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Aztecs 3.2, the Barons 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Steele Canyon, they will face off against Coronado at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
