Cleveland is 0-10 against Granada Hills Charter since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Cleveland Cavaliers will head out on the road to square off against the Granada Hills Charter Highlanders at 4:00 p.m.
Last Friday, Cleveland came up short against Taft and fell 46-38. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Cleveland came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 329th, while Taft is ranked 719th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Gabriella Calderon, who scored 18 points along with two steals. That was a full 47.4% of Cleveland's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Baylee Miles was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Granada Hills Charter entered their tilt with George Washington Prep with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Granada Hills Charter secured a 57-53 W over George Washington Prep on Monday.
Granada Hills Charter can attribute much of their success to Brigita Bulotaite, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks, and Emma Perez, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Perez scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Karma Paez, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Cleveland and nudges their season record down to 10-8. As for Granada Hills Charter, their win bumped their record up to 11-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Cleveland have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 36.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Granada Hills Charter, though, as they've been averaging only 30 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Cleveland was dealt a bruising 66-20 defeat at the hands of Granada Hills Charter in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cleveland was down 38-12.
