Softball Recap: Standing Bear Comes Up Short

If Standing Bear was feeling good fresh off their 11-1 takedown of Lincoln Northwest on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Grizzlies took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elkhorn North Wolves on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-1 on Saturday.

Ella Flamme was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maxim Hall made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Standing Bear has also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season. As for Elkhorn North, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Standing Bear will square off against Gretna at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Dragons' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Grizzlies' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Elkhorn North, they will head out to face off against Duchesne/Roncalli at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
