Montgomery is 0-10 against South Williamsport since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Montgomery Red Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the South Williamsport Mountaineers at 6:00 p.m. Montgomery's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so South Williamsport's offense will have their work cut out for South Williamsport.
On Monday, Montgomery came up short against Bucktail and fell 36-28. Montgomery has struggled against Bucktail recently, as their matchup on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The losing side was boosted by Falin Reynolds, who scored 19 points. Reynolds scored a full 67.9% of Montgomery's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, South Williamsport's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They were the victim of a rough 48-26 loss at the hands of Bloomsburg.
South Williamsport's loss came about despite a quality game from Abby Akers, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Akers scored a full 73.1% of South Williamsport's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Montgomery's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for South Williamsport, they have fallen quite a ways from their 22-7 record last season and are now at 0-3.
Wednesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Montgomery have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 22.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for South Williamsport, though, as they've been averaging only 21.7 rebounds per game. Given Montgomery's sizeable advantage in that area, South Williamsport will need to find a way to close that gap.
Montgomery was dealt a bruising 59-19 loss at the hands of South Williamsport when the teams last played back in January. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Montgomery was down 34-13.
