The La Jolla Vikings are taking a road trip to challenge the Montgomery Aztecs at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Montgomery took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on La Jolla, who comes in off a win.
La Jolla took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Steele Canyon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Vikings narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Cougars 6-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.

Charlie Smith got the start for La Jolla and what a start it was: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Smith a new career-high.
At the plate, Carter Strauss was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Harper Lane, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
La Jolla kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Montgomery fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Madison on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warhawks by a score of 7-6. On the bright side, the six- run performance marked the Aztecs' highest-scoring contest to date.
Julian Martinez put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Isaak Perez made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one double, and one RBI. Cesar Abdul was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
Montgomery is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7. As for La Jolla, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 4-6.
La Jolla might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Montgomery in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
