The Valley Christian Warriors had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past Watsonville 51-25. With Valley Christian ahead 31-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Valley Christian was led to victory by Olivia Arellano and Mia Kagita. Arellano scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals, while Kagita scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenedi Nomura, who scored 12 points.
Watsonville struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Valley Christian pulled down 20.
Valley Christian's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Watsonville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Valley Christian will square off against Los Altos at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Los Altos focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday. As for Watsonville, they will square off against El Primero at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. El Primero will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 723rd, while Watsonville is ranked 310th).
