The Fort Cherry Rangers will venture away from home to face off against the McGuffey Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Fort Cherry's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Bentworth as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rangers in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won six in a row.
Ryan Huey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over six innings pitched. Huey was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Matt Sieg was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Colton Temple, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, the third road match was the charm for McGuffey, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They came out on top against Keystone Oaks by a score of 11-6 on Tuesday. That looming 11-6 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Highlanders yet this season.
McGuffey got a massive performance out of Sam Stout, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Stout also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Logan Carlisle was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.
McGuffey was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
The win got Fort Cherry back to even at 3-3. As for McGuffey, the victory got them back to even at 3-3-1.
McGuffey's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Fort Cherry has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for McGuffey, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Fort Cherry keep running through batters, or will the Highlanders buck the trend?
Fort Cherry came up short against McGuffey when the teams last played back in April of 2023, falling 11-8. Can the Rangers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
