The Esparto Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Rio Vista, falling 58-15. Esparto was down 47-13 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Despite the loss, Esparto still got an impressive performance from Jeriann Moore, who scored nine points.
Rio Vista found their leader in underclassman Samiah Holley, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 12 steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Holley has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Guadalupe Valdenegro, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and eight steals.
Esparto dropped their record down to 1-14 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.7 points per game. As for Rio Vista, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Esparto will square off against the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Juan comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Rio Vista will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Vacaville Christian's defense has only allowed 28.9 points per game this season, so the Rams' offense will have their work cut out for them.
