The Smethport Hubbers will head out on the road to take on the Johnsonburg Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Friday, Smethport came up short against the Panthers and fell 47-34. Smethport has not had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite their loss, Smethport saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Elizabeth Hungiville, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Hungiville is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Goodman, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Johnsonburg's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight defeat. They were beaten by DuBois Central Catholic 52-20. While losing is never fun, Johnsonburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 506th, while the Cardinals are ranked 165th).
Smethport's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Johnsonburg, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-9.
Smethport didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Rams when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 56-51 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Smethport since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
