Hughesville is 1-9 against the RED TORNADOES since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Hughesville Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES at 7:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Hughesville's favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home while the RED TORNADOES have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
Even though Hughesville has not done well against the Panthers recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Hughesville walked away with a 48-41 win over the Panthers. Given Hughesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Panthers are ranked 255th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alli Anstadt was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Breanna Bobak, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 55-23, which was the final score in Mount Carmel's tilt against the Lancers on Wednesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mount Carmel has scored all season.
Hughesville's victory bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Mount Carmel, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
Hughesville was able to grind out a solid victory over the RED TORNADOES in their previous matchup back in January, winning 53-40. Will Hughesville repeat their success, or do the RED TORNADOES have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
