The Ceres Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the West Park Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Ceres 3.2, West Park 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Ceres is headed into the match having just posted their closest victory since April 3rd on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Livingston.
Vincent Castrejon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Ceres' victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mario Vargas, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another was Daniel Davis, who went 1-for-2 with three runs.
Meanwhile, West Park waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Lancers a 17-0 shutout. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Keagan Price looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, West Park got a massive performance out of Mason Zobel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most hits Zobel has posted since back in March. Jesse Palmer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
West Park hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matchups.
West Park's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games. As for Ceres, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season.
