In what's become a running theme this season, the Downey Vikings gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Gahr with a sharp 60-37 win. Given Downey's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Gladiators are ranked 300th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Downey had a senior duo take command as Olivia Vaughn almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine steals and Symantha Barnett dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Vaughn hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Another player making a difference was Genesis Salinas, who scored nine points along with five assists.
Downey pushed their record up to 15-12 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.2 points per game. As for Gahr, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 18-7 record this season.
Downey will head out on the road to square off against the Bears at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. Warren has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 30. As for Gahr, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Pirates at 5:15 p.m.
