Baseball Recap: Washington's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Washington had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against the Mission Bears on Monday as they made off with an 11-5 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Ernie Ruelas was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Washington is undefeated when Ruelas posts two or more runs, but 3-11 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Allan Au looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Back at the plate, Andrew Kim was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5. He has become a key player for Washington: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nick Wilson, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Washington's record is now 6-11. As for Mission, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.

Coming up, Washington will take on Lowell at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cardinals' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mission, they will square off against The Academy - San Francisco at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bears are facing the Wolves at the right time seeing as the Wolves are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
