The Rocky River Ravens will head out on the road to face off against the Charlotte Catholic Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Friday, it was a hard-fought contest, but Rocky River had to settle for a 53-51 defeat against East Mecklenburg. While losing is never fun, Rocky River can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 310th, while East Mecklenburg is ranked 98th).
Despite their defeat, Rocky River saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Markiest Houston, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Houston hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Shamari Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Charlotte Catholic's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. The game between Charlotte Catholic and Independence wasn't particularly close, with Charlotte Catholic falling 59-45. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Charlotte Catholic has scored all season.
This is the second loss in a row for Rocky River and nudges their season record down to 3-6. As for Charlotte Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.
Rocky River was taken down by Charlotte Catholic 78-41 in their previous matchup back in January. Can Rocky River avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
